aboutus

ASR Remodeling LLC was founded by Alex and Sarah Roberts. Alex began working in carpentry and remodeling as an independent contractor shortly after graduating high school, doing most of his work for a Tony Petrehn Construction based out of Lenexa, KS. Alex enjoyed the relationships, the responsibility, and the challenge of the high detail projects that he was able to be involved in during those years. Eventually came an opportunity to work on a large extensive stay remodel project in Japan with Tony Petrehn Construction. Alex and Sarah were newly married and trying to start a family and not interested in traveling to work. So in mid 2015 they decided to start ASR Remodeling LLC as a General Contracting Company.

Alex viewed the transition as a leap of faith. Specifically, faith in the words of Yeshua of Nazareth, a first century Jewish carpenter: "Your Father in heaven knows what you need before you ask."

The Lord proved faithful to provide what was needed for success. Things took off quickly and many great project opportunity's were presented. There's a lot that goes into starting a business on the fly and Alex spent days working on projects and nights and weekends learning how to do estimates, proposals, book keeping and making sure  ASR was doing things correctly and ethically.

Sarah was very supportive in taking care of things on the home front so that Alex could focus on all of the demands of business. Alex found out that though ASR was off the ground, he still had a lot to learn on the business side of things, and the work flow was increasing.

Alex asked his long time friend and brother-in-law, Dillon Reyelts to join ASR around the beginning of 2016. Dillon already had a few years of  Painting and  Remodeling experience, but even more importantly- he had a great attitude, work ethic and ability to treat people with genuine care, so he immediately began making great contributions when he joined ASR. Eventually Sarah took over all of the book keeping  and payroll.

As things progressed and The Lord blessed ASR, it started to become more clear to Alex that it was important to build the business on three pillars that became ASR's motto "Thorough, Clean, and Honest."

Thorough: Construction isn't easy, especially in the world of additions and remodels where you are constantly tying into old work and existing structures. Excellent results don't just happen. The fact is that, in order to put out an excellent product, you must be thorough. This may mean taking more time on each phase of the job to explore the pre-existing conditions, or redoing a completed task to meet a stricter tolerance to provide a better groundwork for what will become the finished product. That is how excellence happens, the elements are against you, and you have to fight for it.

Clean: Cleanliness in construction is often an afterthought for many. But that's really a detrimental mode of operating. Homeowner's and business owners feel disrespected and irritated by sloppy workers who treat their home or business like a solid waste facility instead of an intimate and personal space. Alex felt strongly that a remodeling process was disruptive enough to homeowner's without it being a messy process. Not to mention, the work area only gets more dangerous and less productive the more cluttered and unkept that it becomes. There is also a lot that can be done to prevent dust, debris, and clutter from affecting other areas of the home. It's mostly comes down to the contractor making a choice to treat his neighbor as he would like to be treated, to care more about a customers experience and comfort than his own time or money, and then operating with the forethought, integrity, and assertiveness to be clean.

Honest: Alex felt a strong burden to be honest with customers and give them accurate upfront pricing. The price of a project should not increase beyond the quoted price unless an allowance was made for certain contingencies, or a change order was requested by the customer. In an era overrun with contractors who "upcharge" clients for things that are common occurrences which they should have foreseen, Alex wanted to break the mold by being diligent and taking the time necessary to put together accurate and extensive quotes.  Occasionally a job may be underbid for various reasons, that ultimately  is not the homeowner's problem. ASR is rarely the cheapest contractor available, but we are constantly aiming to exceed our client's value expectations. Many other contractors are quoting a low up front price and preying on the homeowners ignorance throughout the course of the job to either doubly charge for things or cut corners and reduce their own incurred cost. This is despicable and will inevitably catch up with those who play such games. Beyond that, Alex knew that homeowner's were depending on him to give accurate and honest timelines for their projects. It isn't fair to tell a potential client that you have room in your schedule for the project when in fact you do not. It is hard to send potential clients away, but it is wrong to get them under contract knowing full well that you don't intend to meet their desired timeline. And finally, being a contractor requires a lot of information intake and output; who wants to try keep track of lies and half truths anyways? "If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember what you said"- Mark Twain

Ethan Niepman joined the team in 2017 with no previous experience. But what he lacked in experience he made up for in assertiveness, diligence, punctuality and an ability to learn quickly. The ASR team grew in ability and continued to take on more and more complex remodel jobs and custom homes. They honed their skills and systems as time went on and enjoyed the ability to work for repeat customers and form many ongoing and cherished relationships. Alex began focusing more on design, sales, and project legwork, while Dillon stepped into the lead carpenter role and Ethan became increasingly more autonomous, they kept projects running smoothly and trained new employees. ASR Remodeling would not be the high functioning company that it is without Dillon's and Ethan's great efforts and tireless integrities.

Alex, Sarah and the team are thankful to Yehovah, The Lord of Heaven and Earth and for His Son and all that He has provided on this journey. And they are very thankful to all of the kind folks who have treated them as guests and family while they worked in their homes and businesses.
